Living With AI

AI stopped being extraordinary a long time ago.
By 2058, artificial intelligence is simply another layer of everyday life.
It helps people learn, organise their days, search for information, manage homes, analyse data and make decisions.
Most people are comfortable using AI when the consequences are small.
Asking an AI to find a restaurant is one thing.
Allowing an AI-supported system to decide something that could affect your health, your finances or your future is another.
The more important the decision, the more people expect human oversight.
Not everyone trusts AI.
Some people reject it completely. Others worry about accountability, loss of control or decisions that nobody can properly explain.
They are not necessarily technophobes.
Some of their questions are reasonable.
Who is responsible when an AI makes a mistake?
Who controls the system?
Can a decision be explained?
And how much control should a human really give away?
In 2058, the question is no longer whether people use AI.
The question is where they are willing to let it decide.
